'For great gallantry and devotion to duty. He has been in charge of Sprilbank power plant, the pumping, ventilating of the mines and the lighting of the large system of dugouts. This has necessitated constant repairs to cable under shell fire. He has remained in the line during long periods without relief and the success of the plant during the last 12 months, under difficult conditions has been due to his devotion to his work.'
