Military Medal 'Near MT. ST. QUENTIN North of PERONNE on the afternoon of 1st September 1918 during the attack on a trench system North of the Village this soldier displayed great dash and initiative during the operation against TORTELLE TRENCH, which was heavily held by hostile machine guns and snipers. he was the foremost man, and when the Officer leading his group became a casualty, this soldier immediately organised bombing parties and put the guns which had been captured into action. he kept in close touch with the enemy in TORTELLE TRENCH until they retreated.'
