Military Cross 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. With a party of men he crept into "No Man's Land" and at an appointed moment, leaped into the enemy trench, bombing his way along. He was largely instrumental in the capture of a large number of prisoners. He also assisted to construct a barricade under heavy machine gun fire. later, with a small party, he made a raid on enemy trenches, and, captured two machine guns. His devotion to duty, gallantry, and initiative, contributed largely to the success of these operations.'
