War service: Egypt, Western Front Embarked from Australia, 29 September 1915. Fell while on board ship and twisted knee, which thereafter locked continually. Proceeded from Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 26 March 1916. Admitted to 13th General Hospital, Boulogne, 9 July 1916 (synositis, left knee); transferred to England, 18 July 1916; admitted to hospital, treated and released to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 1 September 1916. Knee continuously treated throughtout 1917. Commenced return to Australia on board 'Kenilworth Castle', 12 March 1918; transferred to another ship ('Field Marshall') at Durban, 28 April 1918. Disembarked in Australia, 22 May 1918; discharged, 24 August 1918. Medals: 1914-15 Star, British War Medal, Victory Medal |
