Military Medal 'For service in action and devotion to duty from 25th February to 16th September, 1918. During the period the Battalion was strenuously engaged in stemming the enemy advance on HAZEBROUCK and later in the operations at LIHONS and HERLEVILLE in August, L/Cpl. SIMPSON as assistant C.Q.M.S. was instrumental in successfully getting the rations to his Company. nightly he cheerfully fulfilled his precarious and tedious duties.' Second entry reads: 'For service in action and devotion to duty. at LA MOTTE in April 1918 at STRAZEELE, during the period the Battalion was strenuously engaged in stemming the enemy advance, this soldier then acting in the capacity of Assistant CQMS was instrumental by utter unselfish regard for his own personal safety and welfare, in successfully getting the rations to his Coy. This N.C.O. cheerfully fulfilled his precarious and tedious duty. At LIHONS his work was all that could be desired. Again later at HERLEVILLE WOODS during the operations L/C SIMPSON was solely responsible for the delivery of the ...... ..... subsequent to the advance , alone he personally reconnoited the shell swept track, successfully guided members to practically front positions. His ......... solid........ qualities have been the admiration of all.
