Embarked Melbourne on HT 'Suffolk', 30 September 1916; disembarked Plymouth, England, 3 November 1916; marched into No 3 Camp, Parkhouse, 2 December 1916. Proceeded to France through Folkestone, 1 January 1917; attached to 1st Anzac Entrenching Bn, 15 January 1917; taken on strength of 1st Australian Tunnelling Company, 27 January 1917.

Wounded in action, 17 September 1917, yet remained on duty.

Admitted to 3rd Canadian Stationary Hospital, 29 June 1918 (influenza); to Ambulance Train '61', 30 June 1918, and transferred to 12th General Hospital, Rouen, 1 July 1918; to 74th General Hospital, Troriville, 3 July 1918; admitted to Australian Convalescent Depot, Havre, 5 July 1918; transferred to 2nd General Hospital, Havre, 23 September 1918; discharged to Australian General Base Depot, Rouelles, 29 September 1918; marched out to field, 8 October 1918; rejoined unit, 10 October 1918; proceeded on leave, 3 November 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 11 December 1918; moved out from field, 12 February 1919. Proceeded to England, 24 February 1919, and marched into No 3 Camp, Parkhouse, 25 February 1919; marched into Larkhill RBAA, Heytesbury, 20 March 1919.
