Military Cross 'Previous to the attack on Mont St. Quentin on the 1st September 1918, he made a daring reconnaissance over exposed ground, being constantly under machine gun and sniping fire, and gained information of great value. He then led his company with conspicuous gallantry and skill to the objective, and, although losing all his officers but one, he continued to move about regardless of the enemy's fire, and was thus able to improve his positions.'
