Military Medal

'This man is a Company runner and during the operations near ZONNEBEKE on the 26th September, 1917, did invaluable work. He went through enemy barrages again and again, to deliver messages to Battalion Headquarters concerning the movements of his Company, and during the attack and did splendid work running between the Company Commander and Platoon Commanders; subjected all the while to heavy machine gun and artillery fire. It was largely due to his splendid work that communication was uninterruptedly maintained from the forward line to Battalion Headquarters.'
