Distinguished Conduct Medal 'During the attack on Mont St. Quentin on 1 September, 1918, he was one of a party of eight which stormed a strong point. Rushing forward, he was the first to jump into the enemy trench. Although severely wounded, he continued to fight on. He captured one machine gun and five prisoners.'
