'For bravery and determination on April 5th 1918 at DERNANCOURT South West of ALBERT. While acting as Company Signaller he continued to flash messages back to Battalion Headquarters during heavy fire and whilst doing so, observed a party of enemy approaching from a flank. Without waiting for orders he organised a small party and attacked them with rifle fire and bayonet and drove them off and preserved our line. he continued throughout the day remaining at his post and keeping communications intact, frequently going out and repairing wire under machine gun fire. He was a model of coolness and resource.'
