'On 24.9.17 this man displayed conspicuous courage and complete disregard of shell fire while carrying and assisting wounded between HOOGE TUNNEL and BIRR CROSS ROADS - during a heavy enemy bombardment. While carrying and assisting a badly wounded patient during one of the most ..........periods of this bombardment, he was himself wounded, but insisted on carrying on that he might not himself ......with the work of his squad. He remained on duty with his squad until relieved on the evening of 26.9.17.'
