'During the attack on 9th October, 1917, est of YPRES and previous days, he showed conspicuous gallantry and coolness. He was in charge of pack animal parties taking ammunition to froward dumps and rations to front line under heavy and constant shell fire. on several occasions the shelling was so severe that he had to send back pack animals and personally supervise the carrying forward himself. Keeping his party well together and inspiring all with confidence by his cool and courageous manner. This N.C.O. also did excellent work when the Battalion was at the SOMME last year.'
