Military Medal 'South of VILLE SUR ANCRE on night 18th/19th April, 1918, for his dash and gallantry in an attack on an enemy party at a distance of 800 yards from our lines. The hostile party of 9 men, who had taken up a position in shell holes between our patrol and our front line, resisted stubbornly and put up a good fight. Private BRILLIANT rushed the enemy and bayoneted one of the party. He assisted in carrying back to our lines, under heavy machine gun fire from both flanks, one of the enemy who was killed, and from whom identifications which were urgently required were obtained.'
