Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on our positions opposite DERNANCOURT and ALBERT on 5th April 1918. Whilst the Battery was under heavy shell fire and his No. 1 had been killed, this Gunner took over the duties of No. 1 of his Sub-section without any hesitation, and did his work splendidly. he showed an absolute disregard for his personal safety and set a fine example to the other gunners by his prompt acceptance of the responsibilities of a No. 1 in action. His action helped the Battery over a critical period when it was suffering casualties and the utmost support was required for the Infantry.'
