Proceeded overseas to France, 20 March 1917; taken on strength, 59th Bn, 25 March 1917.

On leave to England, 18 February 1918. Sick whilst on leave; admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, 27 February 1918; discharged to Convalescent Training Depot, Parkhouse, 10 May 1918. Total treatment for venereal disease: 73 days. Readmitted to 1st ADH, 13 June 1918; discharged after 33 days' treatment.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Orca', 19 February 1919; disembarked Sydney, 3 April 1919; discharged, 18 May 1919.
