Military Medal 'During the attack east of ZONNEBEKE on 9th October, 1917, this N.C.O. was sent forward in charge of a patrol to reconnoitre the ground in front of the advanced positions. He moved his patrol forward from shell hole to shell hole under intense enemy machine gun and shell fire and succeeded in locating 3 enemy machine guns which were holding up the advance of the Company. He showed remarkable courage and coolness in carrying out his work under such adverse conditions his cheerfulness inspiring his men with every confidence. The valuable information gained enabled the machine guns to be dealt with and contributed to the safe forward movement of his Company.'
