Proceeded overseas to France, 30 December 1916.

Admitted to 2nd General Hospital, Havre, 10 January 1917 (mumps: slight); discharged to Base Depot, 27 January 1917; rejoined unit, 29 January 1917.

Wounded in action, 31 July 1917 (shell wound, chest), and admitted to 59th Field Ambulance; transferred to 24 General Hospital, Etaples, 1 August 1917; to 6th Convalescent Depot, Havre, 9 August 1917; marched out to unit from Base Depot, 17 August 1917; rejoined 8th Field Artillery Brigade, in the field, 18 August 1917.

On leave to England, 4 January 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 19 January 1918.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 8 August 1918 (gun shot wound, right hand), and admitted to 61st Casualty Clearing Station; transferred by Ambulance Train to 22nd General Hospital, Camiers, 9 August 1918; to England, 13 August 1918, and admitted to Fort Pitt Military Hospital, Chatham; transferred to 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Dartford, 19 August 1918; discharged on furlough, 26 August 1918, to report to No 1 command Depot, Sutton Veny, 9 September 1918.

Found guilty, 22 October 1918, of being absent without leave in Bristol, 18-19 October 1918: reprimanded.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Delta', 24 January 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 10 March 1919; discharged (termination of period of enlistment), 17 April 1919.
