Distinguished Conduct Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry in action. When his company commander and six other ranks were buried, although himself badly shaken, he assisted to dig them out. Later he organized the repairing of the trench. He set a fine example of courage and initiative.'

Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. On reaching the outskirts of a village with a patrol, two machine guns opened fire 15 yaard to his right and a post faced him in front. He immediately dealt with the situation sending a section against the guns and leading an assault on the post himself forcing them to beat a hasty retreat.'
