Military Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty at VAUK-LA-PRATRE near PREMONT on the night of 8th October, 1918. Sergeant BROWNING was in charge of a number of ammunition wagons delivering ammunition to the battery position, where a heavy enemy barrage was placed on the road. This N.C.O. successfully led all wagons through and delivered the ammunition to the battery, thus enabling fire to be directed in an operation on the morning of the 9th October, 1918. On the return journey one wagon received a direct hit with a 5.9 inch, wounding and throwing the horses and drivers to the ground and the wagon on top of two horses and one driver. This N.C.O. showed great coolness in extricating the horses and driver and despatching the wounded to a Dressing Station.'
