'Near POLYGON WOOD, east of YPRES, on 20th and 21st September, 1917, Pte. BUIK acted as Batttalion Runner during the period of the Battalion holding the line. His untiring energy in taking messages to and from the front line was an inspiration to all who witnessed it. On night of 21st September, when the enemy was shelling the forward area and all communications were cut, Pte. BUIK took an important message to the forward posts and returned with valuable situation reports. His work throughout was excellent. '
