War service: Western Front Embarked Adelaide, 31 May 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 21 July 1916. Admitted to Military Hospital, Bulford, 10 August 1916 (venereal disease; discharged from hospital, 5 October 1916; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 57 days. Proceeded overseas to France, 24 November 1916. Admitted to 9th Field Ambulance, 1 July 1917 (debility); discharged to duty, 9 July 1917. On leave to United Kingdom, 9 March 1918; rejoined unit from leave, 25 March 1917. Found guilty, 10 July 1918, of being absent without leave from 10 pm, 8 July, to 7 am, 9 July 1918: awarded 7 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 8 days' pay.
