'At POLYGON WOOD near HOOGE on the night of 27th September 1917 No. 3772 Private W.S. BURT of 'B' Company 32nd Battalion A.I.F. showed exceptional courage and devotion to duty. Whilst the sector was under a very heavy barrage he constantly attended the wounded. Although he was blown up and buried and two of his Stretcher party became casualties he retained his coolness and carried on with his work. by his courage and devotion to duty at all times he won the admiration of all his comrades.'
