Military Medal 'In the operations near HARGICOURT from 18th to 21st September, 1918, Sergeant BUTCHARD played a conspicuous part. On 18th September, 1918, during the time our barrage continued and the period of exploitation he displayed great coolness and sound common sense in leading his men against enemy positions which were successfully overcome in spite of machine gn and rifle fire. By his skilful use of ground and trenches and covering fire he saved many casualties. On 21st September, 1918, he led his men after officers had been wounded and consolidated the position gained.'
