Military Medal

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in the Battle of YPRES (Phase 5) 12th October 1917. When all N.C.Os of his platoon became casualties he took command reorganising it and leading it forward to the second objective under very heavy artillery fire. He assisted an officer to organise a party which attacked and captured two strong points which yielded 6 machine guns and 65 prisoners. He organised a new line and throughout se a fine example of fearlessness and leadership to his men.'
