Embarked Melbourne on HMAT 'Euripides', 4 April 1916; disembarked Suez, 12 May 1916. Transferred to 59th Bn, 25 May 1916, and allotted to 15th Training Bn, Tel-el-Kebir.

Embarked Alexandria on HT 'Ivernia' and proceeded to join the British Expeditionary Force, 21 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, 30 June 1916; taken on strength of 60th Bn, 22 July 1916; proceeded to United Kingdom on leave, 21 August 1917; rejoined unit from leave, 5 September 1917. Transferred to 59th Battalion and taken on strength, 25 September 1918; proceeded to United Kingdom on leave, 28 September 1918; rejoined unit, 13 October 1918.

Admitted to 1st Australian Field Ambulance, 1 November 1918, and transferred to 3rd Australian General Hospital, Abbeville (influenza). Proceeded to England on HS 'Grantully Castle', 10 November 1918; admitted to 4th Southern General Hospital, Plymouth, 11 November 1918; discharged on furlough, 12 December 1918. Marched into No 4 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 27 December 1918; marched into No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 30 December 1918.

Commenced return to Australia on HT 'Lancashire', 7 February 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 31 March 1919. Discharged as being medically unfit for service, Melbourne, 28 May 1919.
