'For conspicuous gallantry as runners in repeatedly traversing the enemy barrage near BULLECOURT on 3rd May 1917 with messages and orders. They [CARROLL and 5075 J.I. PENMAN] were of very great value in passing orders down the line in the captured trenches and in securing reliable inforamation as to the progress of the action.'
