Distinguished Conduct Medal 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. After an unsuccessful attempt had been made to remove two rail mounted heavy howitzers under heavy fire, he requested that a further attempt be made. It was successful, and they were brought safely away. Later, he was of the utmost assistance in helping to evacuate wounded under very trying conditions.'
