'Corporal ANDERSON, as Non Commissioned Officer in charge of the 14th Battalion Scouts during the operations near MESSINES on the 11th/13th June 1917, made a complete reconnaissance of all the lines of communicating in that vicinity. He guided all relieving troops into their positions during the hours of darkness. Three complete reliefs were carried out under his guidance without a single casualty though the enemy kept up the most persistent shelling and swept most of the roads with Machine Gun fire. The success of these reliefs and the lack of confusion and disorder which might have been expected was largely due to his coolness and crisp judgment. I can most highly recommend his work and devotion to duty.'
