War service: Western Front Embarked Sydney, 25 november 1916; disembarked Devonport, England, 29 January 1917; marched in to 12th training Bn, Codford, 30 January 1917. Proceeded overseas to France, 16 July 1917; taken on strength, 45th Bn, in the field, 3 August 1917. Wounded in action, 26 September 1917 (gun shot wound, right hand, right knee); admitted to 2nd Australian General Hospital, Boulogne; transfererd to England, 30 September 1917, and admitted to 2nd Southern General Hospital, Bristol, 1 October 1917; discharged on furlough, 2 November 1917, to report to No 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott, 16 November 1917. Admitted to 1st Australian Dermatological Hospital, Bulford, 23 November 1917 (gonorrhoea); discharged, 29 December 1917; total period of treatment for venereal disease: 37 days. Marched in to Overseas Training Brigade, Longbridge Deverill, 1 February 1918. Proceeded overseas to France, 4 October 1918; taken on strength, 48th Bn, 10 October 1918.
