Found guilty, 26 May 1917, of disobeying an order given by an NCO: awarded 3 days' Field Punishment No 2.

Detached to 2nd Army Sniping School, 17 October 1917; rejoined Bn from detachment, 5 November 1917.

Detached to Australian Corps School as batman, 18 January 1918; rejoined Bn from detachment.

On leave to United Kingdom, 2 March 1918; rejoined Bn from leave, 19 March 1918.

Wounded in action, 16 May 1918 (gassed, shell, mustard), and admitted to 5th Field Ambulance, and transferred to 20th Casualty Clearing Station; to 41st Stationary Hospital, 16 May 1918; discharged to unit, 26 May 1918; rejoined Bn, in the field, 3 June 1918.

Admitted to 8th Field Ambulance, 4 December 1918 (cardio enteritis), and transferred to 37th Casualty Clearing Station; to 9th General Hospital, Rouen, 7 December 1918 (infected intestines); transferred to England, 17 December 1918, and admitted to County Middlesex War Hospital, Napsbury, 18 December 1918; discharged on furlough, 23 December 1918, to report to No 1 Command Depot, 6 January 1919.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Lancashire', 7 February 1919; disembarked Fremantle, 11 March 1919; discharged (termination of period of enlistment), Sydney, 11 May 1919.
