Embarked Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, Gallipoli, 5 April 1915.

Promoted Sergeant, Gallipoli, 28 April 1915.

Wounded in action, 28 April 1915 (gun shot wound, scalp); admitted to HS 'Galeka' and then transferred to HS 'Delta', 2 May 1915; transferred to England, and admitted to No 1 Southern General Hospital, Dudley Road Section, Chichester, 12 May 1915; transferred to Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 20 September 1915.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Runic', 7 November 1915; arrived Melbourne, 21 December 1915.

Returned to duty, 21 February 1916.
