Military Medal 'On 4th July, 1918, at HAMEL, this man was in charge of a bombing squad which went forward to assist the forward Battalion in driving out the enemy from our front posts to which he had penetrated. He displayed great courage and resourcefulness in dealing with a very difficult situation. He led his party in No Man's Land and bombed an enemy machine gun, thus enabling another party to rush the post and capture it. His leadership, daring and courage were the means of enabling that part of the line to be cleared of the enemy, and his coolness and devotion to duty at a critical time saved many casualties and restored the situation.'
