Admitted to 5th Australian Field Ambulance, 15 April 1918 (dentures), and transferred to 20th Casualty Clearing Station; to 12th CCS, 18 April 1918; to 22nd General Hospital, Camiers, 25 April 1918; to Base Depot, 2 May 1918. Classified 'E' (Age 51), 18 May 1918, and proceeded to England.

Commenced return to Australia on board HT 'Essex' for change (senility), 7 June 1918; disembarked Sydney, 1 August 1918, for onward travel to Melbourne; discharged, 19 August 1918.
