Military Medal 'This N.C.O. on the night 11th/12th February, 1917, constructed the advanced barricade in STORMY TRENCH north east of GUEUDECOURT under heavy attacks by the enemy. The work was most efficiently performed and it was only by the bravery and exertion and example set by him that his men remained at their post and completed the work. Had they withdrawn before it was completed it would probably have meant the loss of several lives. He showed marked ability in grasping the situation and handling men.'
