Military Cross

'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty during the attack on the Hindenburg Line south of Vendhuile on 29th September, 1918. When the battery came under heavy artillery and machine gun fire and two gun detachments were blown out, he immediately jumped to one of the guns, and, with the assistance of a sergeant, continued the service of the gun until reinforcements could be organized. Later in the action he again acted in the same gallant manner, and it was largely due to his personal courage and resourcefulness that the remaining four guns of the battery were maintained in action.'
