Military Medal 'Is brought to notice for his excellent work and gallantry during the operations near HEBUTERNE. After his Platoon Commander had been wounded, he took command of his Platoon most efficiently. During the enemy's intense bombardments on the 5th April, 1918 he was always to be found at the point of greatest danger, encouraging his men, and helping to care for the wounded, with a complete disregard for his own personal safety. When the attack developed he took his Platoon to the right Flank and directed their fire on the enemy with great skill and energy. He is recommended for distinction.'
