Enlisted, 19 January 1915; to be Corporal whilst in charge of Native Hospital, Rabaul, 5 June 1915; having been relived of duty at the Native Hospital, reverts to his permanent rank, 10 July 1915; to draw 4/- per day from administration funds whilst employed as Chief Engineer on S.S. 'Sumatra', 10 July 1915; to be Corporal, 3 September 1915; proceeded to Australia on Furlough, 18 February 1916; discharged from Naval & Military Expeditionary Force and enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force, 24 March 1916; embarked, Sydney, 22 August 1916; disembarked, Plymouth, England, 13 October 1916; marched into and taken on strength of Sutton Veny Command Depot, 13 October 1916; reverts to Private on marching in from Australia, 14 October 1916; marched out to Wareham Command Depot, 21 November 1916; marched out to Wilton Camp, 12 March 1917; temporarily attached to Hurdcott Command Depot, 12 March 1917; marched into Weymouth Command Depot, 23 March 1918; marched out to Administration Headquarters, London, pending return to Australia, 4 April 1918; commenced return to Australia for discharge (lumbago, malaria), 21 April 1918; discharged, Sydney, 19 July 1918.
