Military Medal 'At WESTHOEK RIDGE 20th September 1917. For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty, when as a Company runner despite heavy shell fire he maintained communication between the front line and Battalion Headquarters. Later, after heavy casualties had occurred amongst the N.C.O.'s, he took on his own initiative, command of a section and led it to the final stages of the attack. Again later he personally conducted the relief of two posts under heavy shell fire.'
