Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 25 March 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 1 April 1916.

Wounded in action, 7 August 1916 (gun shot wounds, left arm left leg, chest); transferred to England, 13 August 1916, and admitted same day to 1st Eastern General Hospital; transferred to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 29 December 1916; marched in to Reserve Brigade Australian Artillery, Larkhill, 28 January 1917.

Proceeded overseas to France, 20 March 1917; marched out to 1st Anzac Salvage Corps, 4 April 1917; attached to 1st Australian Division Salvage Company, 7 April 1917.

Admitted to 8th Field Ambulance, 17 April 1917 (dhobic itch), transferred same day to 13th Field Ambulance, and then to Divisional Rest Station; to 56th Casualty Clearing Station, 25 April 1917; to Ambulance Train No 16, 27 April 1917, and admitted to 10th General Hospital, Rouen, 28 April 1917 (tinea); transferred to No 2 Convalescent Depot, 12 May 1917; discharged to Base Depot, 28 May 1918; rejoined unit, 15 June 1917.
