'This NCO left Australia in September 1914 and took part in the landing at Gallipoli, has fought at Pozieres, Langincourt and Bullecourt. He also took part in the fighting near Warneton in july and August 1917, and again at Passchendaele on October 4th and 10th October 1917. This NCO has set a fine example of devotion to duty; he has never been away from his unit since November 1916. He is always an example to all around him of personal bravery under fire, and has successfully led his section in action under very arduous conditions.'
