Military Medal 'On 12th October, 1917, East of YPRES, for conspicuous bravery and devotion to duty in action. When all the officers of his Company had become casualties, he took command of the Company and led it to the capture of the objective which he consolidated. He then re-organised the Company and handled it with great judgment for the rest of the day. He displayed remarkable initiative and his cheerfulness under heavy fire and trying natural conditions had a most beneficial effect on the morale of all his men.'
