Joined Bn at Gallipoli, 26 May 1915.

Wounded in action, 6 August 1915 (gun shot wound, left forearm), and admitted to 2nd Field Ambulance; transferred to No 1 General Hospital, Heliopolis, 11 August 1915; to No 2 Auxiliary Hospital, Heliopolis, 13 August 1915; to Convalescent Camp, Helouan, 8 September 1915; to Base details, Zeitoun, 24 September 1915; rejoined Bn at Gallipoli, 17 November 1915.

Disembarked Alexandria, 28 December 1915 (general Gallipoli evacuation). Found guilty, Tel el Kebir, 5 February 1916, of breaking camp and being absent without leave from Tattoo, 23 January, to 2.15 pm, 3 February 1916: awarded 21 days' Field Punishment No 2, and forfeited 12 days' pay.

Transferred to 53rd Bn, 14 February 1916.

Embarked Alexandria to join the British Expeditionary Force, 19 June 1916; disembarked Marseilles, France, 26 June 1916.

Wounded in action (second occasion), 18 July 1916 (gun shot wound, chest), and admitted to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station; transferred to Ambulance Train, 19 July 1916, and admitted same day to 13th General Hospital, Boulogne. Transferred to England, 1 August 1916, and admitted same day to 3rd Southern General Hospital, Bristol (chest wound: severe); transferred to 1st Australian Auxiliary Hospital, Harefield, 17 August 1916; marched in to No 2 Command Depot, Weymouth, 1 September 1916.

Commenced return to Australia from Portland on board HT 'Ajana', 17 October 1916; discharged, Sydney, 8 April 1917.
