'During the operations East of YPRES in October, Private MOUNTFORD was a member of the Pack Troop carrying supplies from WESTHOEK to ZONNEBEKE. The road was almost impassable and mules and animals were continually being bogged. The shell fire was at all times severe, but this did not deter Private MOUNTFORD from assisting and extricating men and animals and getting supplies forward. His conduct during these operations and throughout the period September 1917 to February 1918 has been admirable, and an outstanding exhibition of absolute coolness and devotion to duty.'
