Military Medal 'For his very gallant work as stretcher bearer during attack near ZONNEBEKE on the 26th September, 1917. He showed an utter contempt of danger and unaided repeatedly carried wounded men on his back across a swamp swept by machine gun fire. After our wounded had been cleared he proceeded to the forward Battalions and rendered them valuable assistance in the same manner.'
