Proceeded from Alexandria to join the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force at Gallipoli, 16 May 1915.

Taken sick at Gallipoli, 12 December 1915 (pleurisy); evacuated on board HT 'Oxfordshire', and admitted to 3rd Auxiliary Hospital, Heliopolis, 15 December 1915; rejoined unit, Maadi, 29 December 1915.

Reverted to Private at own request, and promoted Sergeant, 28 May 1916.

Admitted to Cadet School, Cairo, 22 March 1918. Promoted 2nd Lt, 15 June 1918. Taken on strength, 2nd Light Horse Training Regiment, 22 June 1918. Promoted Lieutenant, 17 September 1918.

Admitted to 31st General Hospital, 10 December 1918 (pneumonia); discharged to AIF Headquarters, 26 December 1918.

Commenced return to Australia from Kantara on board HT 'Delta', 2 August 1918; disembarked Melbourne, 3 September 1919, then travelled by rail to Brisbane; discharged, 5 november 1919.
