Proceeded overseas to France, 12 October 1917; joined unit, 15 October 1917.

Wounded in action (gun shot wound, right leg), 25 October 1917. Transferred to England, 7 November 1917, and admitted to 5th Southern General Hospital, Plymouth, 8 November 1917. Granted furlough, 3-17 December 1917, to report to No. 3 Command Depot, Hurdcott.

Proceeded overseas to France, 1 May 1918; rejoined unit, 15 May 1918.

Transferred to England to commence return to Australia, 30 April 1919. Granted 3 months' Non-Military Employment on full military pay, 23 June-23 September 1919, to work as builders' labourer with Wort & Ways, Salisbury; employment cancelled, 18 August 1919, owing to wages dispute. Married Edith Sarah BLAKE, Salisbury, 12 July 1919.

Disembarked Sydney from 'Themistocles', 9 February 1920; discharged, 25 March 1920.
