Disembarked Suez, 20 June 1917; taken on strength, 4th Training Regiment, Moascar, 26 July 1917. Marched into 4th Light Horse Training Regiment, 23 October 1917; taken on strength, 4th Light Horse Regiment, 7 November 1917.

Admitted to 14th Australian General Hospital, Port Said, 1 March 1918 (myalgia); transferred to Rest Camp, Port Said, 26 April 1918; discharged to duty, 3 May 1918. Found guilty, 1 May 1918, of when on active service (1) drunkenness and (2) creating a disturbance: deprived of 14 days' pay and returned to unit, 3 May 1918. Found guilty, 27 June 1918, of wh en on active service, drunkenness on 22 June 1918: fined 10/-. Rejoined Regiment, 18 August 1918.

Detached to 12th Light Horse Regiment, Tripoli, 3 December 1918. Found guilty of when at Beirut (1) being absent without leave from 1000 on 15.3.19 to 1000 on 19.3.19 (2) neglect to the prejudice of good order and military discipline in that he neglected to comply with an order to report to Headquarters 12th L.H.R. (3) losing by neglect the following articles: 1 jacket S.D.; 1 pair gloves; 2 blankets: awarded 10 days' Field Punishment No. 2; forfeited a total of 14 days' pay.

Admitted to 14th Australian General Hospital, Abbassia, 13 April 1919; discharged to duty, 6 June 1919.

Commenced return to Australia from Kantara on board HT 'Essex', 15 June 1919; disembarked Melbourne, 25 July 1919; discharged, 24 August 1919.
